summer’s best toast.
Summer is finally here, everyone! This means more meals at home. We’ve been enjoying toast a lot – not just for breakfast, but throughout the day with my kids. I like to switch things up and try out new ideas. Right now, our favorite is this fun brunch toast. It’s really simple. Just take any bread you like and create a checkerboard pattern on it. You can use any toppings you want. Currently, I spread a layer of jelly on the bottom and then cream cheese on top. I even added a pink hue for a fun touch and used edible flowers to create that checkerboard pattern. You can try using different flavors in each square too. The possibilities are endless – you can use cream cheese, honey, smashed avocado, jelly, peanut butter, or butter and jelly. So, if you’re looking for a tasty morning treat to liven up these summer mornings, give this checkerboard toast a try!

Checkerboard Toast
Ingredients
- Slice of bread any kind
- Jelly any topping of your choice
- Cream Cheese
- Edible Flowers
Instructions
- This is what is so fun about this toast. You can pick any topping and any type of bread. Today, I'm using white bread for the kids. Simply, toast your bread. Then I like to do layers. Layer some jelly and then follow up with some cream cheese. To add color, simply mix in a drop of gel food coloring. Mix it up, and layer the cream cheese on the jelly layer. You can also do one layer of both by adding squares in checkerboard fashion. I had edible flowers around the house, so I went with this pattern. Then simply, serve it up! Sometimes, all you need to do it serve up the same boring toast but in a fun playful way.
